Perched, on the south west facing side of the Leete valley, with views across to the Clwydian hills and Offas dyke, it is a magnet for wild life including woodpeckers, gold finch, owls, song birds, herons and badgers.

There is a large garden with scented blossoms and shady nooks to sit and dream.. Also an organic vegetable garden where we grow vegetables and fruit for the table and a small flock of hens provide fresh eggs for the kitchen.

The main house has 5 well appointed bedrooms, all en-suite and with views of the garden and/or the valley. The guests have a breakfast room and comfortable lounge with a Tv , games, and a varied selection of books.

Pentre Cerrig is ideally suited for sightseeing, walking and cycling - or just relaxing . There are 3 friendly pubs that serve meals within 1.5 miles from the house. We are just 4 miles from the market town of Mold with Theatre Clywd; 30 minutes from the Roman city of Chester; an hour from Liverpool, Manchester, Llandudno and centrally located for touring the North Wales towns, valleys and villages of Snowdonia.

HISTORY

Ancient records say the original part of the building dates back to 1596, and could have been occupied when Queen Elizabeth was first making her royal progress. Church records show that the kitchen/pantry area where was originally a cottage, and that Llanferres church has records of inhabitants from around this time. Apparently it supplied another large property with pigs , eggs etc although there is no evidence it this it seems likely if it were a ‘tied cottage’ with occupants working for a local landowner. It certainly has records of paying tithes or local taxes in about 1668 according to a local historian. The building most definitely will have had some animals etc for the workers.

The west wing - the new part of the house where the French room is located is estimated to originate from the mid 1800’s but has been changed over the centuries . When Ted was refurbishing the property in the 70’s, they found coins in the window sill from 1745 - apparently it was a custom for tradesmen to insert a small coin into their work of the year it was done.

Between 1998 and 2007, Charmian and Ted ran Pentre Cerrig as a guest house. If any of our previous guests are still around, we would be pleased to welcome them again! Following a break from hospitality and after some upgrades to the property in late 2021 and early 2022 Charmian and Ted reopened Pentre Cerrig as a guest house alongside some self catering units and are delighted to be welcoming guests back to Pentre Cerrig once again.
